The story of us part 1.

Part 2 | part 3 | part 4

So I had every intention of working out tonight, I've been lounging in my workout clothes trying to encourage myself to be any sort of active. But OBVIOUSLY blogging wins per usual.

It started in March 2009. When I got a friend request from a cute boy that went to the rivaling high school. Did I think he was cute? I don't even remember.

apparently I wanted to reintroduce myself because one introduction was not enough

Let me be clear, we did in no way "meet" on facebook. Jason actually saw my picture on a bulletin board at church (my building was the biggest meeting house where mutual was often held and every so often all the church meetings for everyone in the "boundaries" would meet there for stake conference) It was a picture from girls camp that past summer. Somehow he found me cute. and if that isn't love, I honestly have no clue what is. Me at girls camp, 2008:

Those bangs will forever plague me. I specifically remember google searching "scene hair" for inspiration. ahhhhh! someone slap my 16 year old self, please!

Anyways, we had also "met" at a fun. (the band fun.) meet and greet aka cut in front of him and his friends and they protested they way high school boys protest when a bunch of giggly girls cut them in line.

That was the extent of our "meeting"

Fast forward to graduation night. I was with my best friends & we were running on pure excitement because we were GRADUATED! We went to a girls party that night (Paige)  and I remember meeting a group of guys. My memory is terrible. It really is, bless this blog and my years of keeping journals to help me remember events as such! This was my journal entry, don't worry, I skipped to the good part:

May 30th, 2010
"...Party #1= Paige's luau. Delish food and attractive men. Lovely combo. I met some new friends. I had already known this one kid named Jason Shiflet from a Fun. concert meet and greet. Anywho, I basically befriended all of his friends who'd attended... "

Basically we all bonded on the fact that we all disliked a certain boy. A boy (let's call him joe) I was currently crushing on. Joe's current "fling" was also having a fling with one of Jason's friends. They knew details and my poor teenage vigilance on the situation got the best of me.

Throughout May-June, I enjoyed my new friends a whole lot. Early June, I went to youth conference  (basically all the youth ages 12-18 in my stake go to a weekend conference filled with awesome spiritual lessons and activities) I had asked Jason if he was going like the day before we were set to depart and he said yes! I didn't know then, but J told me that he had no intentions of going at all until I invited him (aka until he knew I was going) and he figured things out quick to make sure he could go. There were hundreds of youth in attendance and out of every group, Jason and I got placed in the same one together. Here are some pictures I have from it :) Me in the bottom left corner and Jason standing right above me.

We all hung out I think almost daily! A couple pictures I found:

Jason liked me and everyone knew. except me.  Well, I knew kind of. People told me but obviously he hadn't even asked me on a date so I just said they were crazy. Plus, I had a crush on his best friend. And he liked me right back. One thing led to another and his best friend kissed me .  We can call his best friend Jake.

June 27th, 2010 straight from my journal:
"K. news. Jake kissed me. Just a peck, don't freak out! K so last week and a week before I was kinda thinking I liked Jake. And the kid liked me, too. So last Monday he comes over at like maybe 10:45-11pm ish . He has this special blankie and lays it on the grass and says he has a secret. Secret is that he really likes me but so does Jason so he did not want to cause bad blood between them. Then, as he's leaving, he says he's got one more secret. He kisses me. End. So Jason found out and he says he doesn't care. But I dunno what I think of Jake. oh well!"

I remember thinking Jake was a bad kisser haha I hung out with Jason a few times after that and he finally asked me on a date! I loved friend dates. Jason didn't want it to be a friend date but little naive Candace treated it as that. I remember we picked up costa vida to go & we drove up to La Sendas in his dads truck with another couple. We had a cute picnic on the top of the highest hill and admired the city lights as they glistened below us.  I wanna say long boards were involved at some point.

I think I maybe saw Jake one or two more times after he kissed me. Eventually, Jake stopped talking to me. My fragile heart couldn't take such cruelty and I stopped talking to all of those boys. Including Jason.

This is a picture from our first date ever. aka the oh so famous friend date.

Jason left on a mission for our church a few months later to Barcelona, Spain.  We hadn't spoken for a while and I honestly didn't really plan on speaking to him ever again. I didn't really have a reason to and I was moving to attend BYU in Idaho for the next 4 years in hopes of meeting my soulmate and having a million babies together. Jason wrote me weekly, well, he sent a group email to a select group and I was in that category. You know what I did with his letters? I sent them straight to my trash folder.

  5. OMG DON'T LEAVE US HANGING LIKE THAT!!? Now I'm not going to be able to sleep all weekend because I don't know what happened after the mission trip. Just kidding, but really don't keep us waiting too long because I LOVE THIS! The FB messages are hilarious!! You sound like such kids! And it is sooo obvious that he liked you. I kept John and I's first FB interaction too, but I wouldn't share it because it went something like John asking me if I was okay because the night we met I was crying to him all night about another guy haha. He liked me (never told me, but he didn't really have to) for years while I dated all the wrong guys and I was an a-hole. I hope you were nicer to Jason than I was ;) PS- you look super cute with short hair! And I like the bangs too!!
