How to grow long + healthy hair

Hi! I wanted to share some tips I have to keep my hair growing long and healthy! I get my hair done about every 2 months and only use bleach which obviously isn't the best thing for your hair, but I love being blonde and unless science comes up with something just as amazing, bleach it is! I've had to learn how to take care of my hair and keep it healthy so that it will still grow and not look gross with tons of split ends and breakage. It still doesn't grow very quickly, but it grows in much healthier now which means less need for trims and longer hair!

Shampoo and conditioner:
As you know, I try to be frugal! If I can get a good product for cheap, I will get it! This does not apply to buying shampoo and conditioner, you really really DO get what you pay for!! I always look for a shampoo/conditioner that is free of: sulfates, parabens, phthalates, gluten, drying alcohol and artificial colors and has some sort of moistening element in it like an oil or something! At least look for something without some of those ingredients because they are all really bad things to be putting on your hair. Lately I've been loving Hask Macadamia Oil Moisturizing shampoo and conditioner and it follows all of my little guidelines :) I really love how this combo makes my hair super soft and it smells amazing!! I used their deep conditioner, too, left it on for 30 minutes and my hair felt like heaven!! Something that also helps but is kind of hard to do in a nice warm shower is rinsing my hair in cold water. Basically hot water opens the hair cuticle which is good before you use product and cold water closes the cuticle to keep that moisturizing stuff in there! So if you can handle ending with some chilly water, your hair will LOVE you!

Heat:
I usually will curl my hair one day and not touch it until I wash my hair again! I know not everyone's hair holds curls very well, so if yours does not, just try to touch it up here and there if you have to! The less heat, the better as I'm sure you already know. I use Sexy Hair Style Sexy Hair 450 Degree Protect Heat Defense for my heat spray and I like that it keeps my hair protected and adds some shine. Plus, a little goes a long way so these bottles last me about a year!

After shower products:
This is almost as important as using good shampoo and conditioner! I absolutely love it's a 10 products! I use the it's a 10 miracle leave in product after I shower and it really makes a world of difference. I always use that an an oil! I've been using the Hask Macadamia Shine Oil Treatment and using these two products after I shower is honestly amazing! I notice when I don't use these (which is very rare) my hair isn't as soft as usual, these products really do make a big difference!!

Vitamins + Water:
I've been taking prenatal vitamins and it not only is good for baby but amazing for hair!! Prenatal's have soooo many essential nutrients that are so good for hair and help promote growth! I also drink TONS of water. Our bodies are 60-80% water so clearly we need it, and it is proven to help hair grow faster and free!!

Those are just a few things that I do and so far it is working!! I also do hair masks once a week with a different deep conditioner, Hask has an awesome deep conditioner and I also switch between this and this one, and even coconut oil is super cheap and amazing! . Share your hair growing tips with me, too!

  1. CANDACE! I keep thinking about you. How are you??? You actually just reminded me of something, so if I really, REALLY want to grow my hair out this year, is it weird to take prenatal vitamins lol???? I know a lot of girls do, but is that so weird? Does it make your nails grow too because I already hate that my nails grow so fast.

    1. Hi!!! I've been so so busy over here and trying to get all this stuff done and also been the worst blog friend EVER!! haha I've literally read no blogs this week. And not weird at all!! I used to take prenatal in high school all the time and biotin after that! I've tried a bunch of different multi vitamins to see what works for me! Pre natal ones are just filled with lots of vitamins so anyone can take them cause it's just good for you! I get mine from Trader Joes. They make everything grow faster, hair (leg hair, too which sucks) nails, better skin, etc!

  5. When I opened this post, I was like, "yes! I was dumb and permed my hair last summer and it's suffering all the chemical repercussions now!" I was excited to see what you are using to keep up bleached hair. Chemical twins, no? (; Earlier this week, I started a new to me hair care routine and I'm baffled at how much my hair has changed in just three washes! Guess what, I started using Hask products! Refreshing to know they work in the long run! (:

  8. Ooohhh I've never tried using cold water at the end before! I should give that a go. I've bleached my hair twice too so I'm always scared that my hair will break super easy. I've never heard of the brand Hask before but I'll go and see if shops around here store this brand!!
Do you use any purple shampoo as well to keep it toned!? I absolutely llooveee your hair colour candace! wish i could pull it off haha

    1. Yes cold water is hard to do BUT so worth it!! Even just chilled water if you can't handle it too cold like me haha Really though any nice shampoo and conditioner (I also love matrix products, too!)

And thank you sooooo much!!! I use Shimmer Lights purple shampoo!! It's my favorite purple shampoo that I've tried, the only con is that it smells like grandma shampoo haha but it works like a charm :) You could EASILY pull off light blonde!!! xo
